New facility for state-run body that supplies many of London’s Turkish teachers
Turkey formally opened new London offices for its embassy’s education counsellor last week in an event attended by diplomats, teachers and members of the community.
The London Education Counsellor, or Londra Eğitim Müşavirliği, has relocated to a site off Grays Inn Road from smaller offices it occupied for many years on Edgware Road.
The new facilities were opened on Tuesday 24 January by Emek Üşenmez, the counsellor, at an even also attended by Funda Kocabıyık, director of EU and Foreign Affairs at the Turkish Ministry of Education; Undersecretary Cem Işık from the Turkish Embassy in London; and a range of other education officials.
Also present was Kelami Dedezade and Neci Hasanoğlu, respectively the former and current heads of the Turkish Education Consortium, an umbrella body that represents schools and teachers in London.
The opening was marked with a simple ribbon-cutting, after which guests were invited to peruse the range of books that the new office had on offer.
SUPPLIES TEACHERS FROM TURKEY
The Education Counsellor is primarily responsible for providing Turkish language teachers for primary schools and supplementary schools in the Greater London area. This service is free of charge for the schools, as the teachers are Turkish government employees assigned to the UK as part of their job in Turkey.
There are approximately 20 such Turkish teachers based in the UK at the moment.
The Counsellor’s Office is also a useful resource for UK college and university graduates who want to pursue onward study in Turkey, and want their qualifications recognised there.
The Turkish Education Counsellor can be reached at their new offices at this address: First Floor 5-15 Cromer Street, London, WC1H 8LS, or by telephone on 020 7278 5358 or 020 7278 1147. Their email address is info@meblem.org.uk.
