Police release image of man suspected of assaulting ticket inspector in January
Police have released the picture of a man they are seeking following an assault on a bus ticket inspector in Stoke Newington earlier this year.
The suspect is alleged to have attacked the inspector on a number 149 bus on Manse Road, close to Rectory Road station, as it was travelling into central London.
“The victim, a Revenue Protection Inspector, challenged a man on the bus about his non-payment of fare and his refusal to give his details,” a police statement said.
“It continued: “The victim then asked the man to leave the bus, which he refused to do. He then attacked the victim, punching him in the chest and head, whilst kicking his legs.”
The suspect was described as black, approximately 1.77m tall, aged around 40-years-old with a stocky build, a black moustache and speaking with a London accent.
He was described as wearing a black jacket and a brown cap, the police statement said.
Members of the public grabbed the man and pushed him off the bus. He was then heard to shout at the victim: “The next time I see you, you will be a dead man.”
PC Neil Webb said: “We robustly investigate all allegations of assault that occur on the bus network.
“If you commit such an offence, not only will you be prosecuted, but you may also be banned from being able to use TfL operated services in the future.”
Graham Daley, TfL’s Head of Enforcement and On-Street Operations, added: “Our staff have the right to go about their work without fear or intimidation.
“We are extremely concerned by these allegations and urge anyone with information to come forward to police.”
