Think-tank and lobby group Kurdish Progress announces details of Newroz ceremony in parliament on 15 March
Kurdish Progress, a think-tank and lobby group based in London, has announced the details of 2017 Newroz reception and awards ceremony next month.
Shadow Home Secretary Diane Abbott will be hosting this year’s event in the Houses of Parliament on 15 March, which will bring together Kurds from Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran to celebrate Newroz.
It will be jointly organised with the AKEE, the Association of Kurdish Employers in Europe.
The event will also see an awards ceremony for the third consecutive year, after successful previous instalments including in 2015, when it was hosted by Sadiq Khan and Stephen Twigg. The awards recognise successful Kurds In Britain for their work and contribution to the community.
Kurdish Progress director Raife Aytek said they were proud of entering their third year and said receptions in parliament were an effective means to shine a light on the Kurdish issue.
Awards will be offered in seven categories to men and women, including most successful businessperson and the popular young entrepreneur award.
Kurdish Progress and the AKEE are encouraging people to nominate candidates for the awards online by visiting kurdishprogress.org/awards_nomination or sending an email to kurdishprogress2014@gmail.com including the name, category and contact details.
Awards will be offered in the following categories:
Most Successful Businessman/woman

Most Successful Male/Female Student
Most Successful Young Entrepreneur

Art Award (Female and Male)
