Haringey Council appeals to residents and businesses for their thoughts on transforming a key Turkish part of North London
Haringey Council has launched a consultation exercise on its plans to transform the district of Wood Green in North London, a key Turkish-speaking area in the capital.
The council said it plans to create 4,000 jobs and 7,700 new homes in the area and reform the shopping district into a major centre for retail, leisure and office space.
“We want to make Wood Green one the best places to work, shop, eat and drink in London and need local people to give use their views to help shape the future of the area,” said Joe Goldberg, Haringey Council Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Social Inclusion and Sustainability.
“It is important that people have their say and we are calling on anyone living and working in the area to tell us what they like about Wood Green and what they would like to see improved.”
A statement from Haringey Council said the proposals included attracting more restaurants, cafés and places to socialise, as well as redeveloping currently underused sites to create a range of new workspaces and offices for local and London-based businesses.
“It is also proposed to improve the street layout in Wood Green’s centre and create more public spaces, as well as new pedestrian and transport links between Wood Green town centre and other parts of the borough including Alexandra Palace,” the statement added.
