Enfield Council appeals for information to catch New Southgate fly-tipper
This is the fly-tipper that Enfield Council would like to trace after he was caught abandoning a mattress on CCTV.
The man was snapped dumping the rubbish near residential bins in New Southgate, prompting an appeal for information
If caught, the dumper will receive a £400 fixed penalty notice and if he refuses to pay, he will be prosecuted by Enfield Council.
The act happened on 2 February at 12.30pm in Palmers Road N11, close to the junction with Bowes Road.
Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Daniel Anderson, said: “Enfield Council spends £4.5m each year cleansing our streets and there are plenty of ways of disposing of waste legally and responsibly in the Borough. There really is no excuse to dump junk in this way and I look forward to this man being caught and handed a fixed penalty notice.
Six prosecutions so far
“I would therefore appeal to anyone who has any information on the culprit to report him as soon as possible through our website www.enfield.gov.uk.”
In January, Enfield Council announced a higher penalty charge for those caught dumping waste illegally, doubling the penalty from the previous £200. So far, six fly-tippers have already received the newly bumped-up penalty notice and the man caught on CCTV could be lucky number seven.
The council said in a statement: “If you are having bulky waste picked up and disposed on your behalf, please make sure you ask to see the relevant Waste Carrier’s Licence, otherwise you too could be presented with a fixed penalty notice. Help Enfield in its efforts to be cleaner and greener.
“Residents can report fly-tipping directly through the Council’s website. Information on rubbish and recycling facilities can also be found online.
“Furthermore, you can request a free furniture collection from the British Heart Foundation, while bulky, non-electrical items can be picked up from your home free of charge by Enfield Council.”
